The Modular tent may host 6 to 10 people depending on type of beds. The tent is completed with a frame, two clothes with sewed floor and a tackle kit. The tent has entrance, 4 windows with mosquito-guarding nets, plastic sun-guarded screens and a hole for chimney pipe in case of using a heating stove or a sleeve for the hot air. The tent is equipped with two 100W lamps and two dust and water guarded sockets of 220V which can be connected to any electric power supply.

Frame
The modular tent has quick to install steel frame with polymer coating where all links and connectors are a united part of the tent. The frame pipe’s diameter is 40 mm for the construction’s durability. Parts are easy to be connected with each other by spring loaded stainless fixing lugs. Quantity of passages was decreased so the frame can be installed by two people during less than 3 minutes. The tent installation does not require qualified instructions or special equipment unlike pneumo modular constructions. Due to the improved frame the modular tent became stronger than previous M-10 modification; besides, installation time is shorter.

Clothes
Roof of the outer cloth is made of waterproof frost proof sheeting with PVC-covering. The tent’s roof is 100% airproof due to connective stitches treated by HFC facilities. Walls of the outer cloth are made of water-proof canvas and can be got up for ventilation. Breathable cloth let you live with comfort even in hot regions without air conditioning.

Inner cloth is made of natural material – frieze, which has lighter weight than synthetic analogues. Frieze is a great insulant that does not withhold water; due to this the tent is easier to pack in field conditions.
Inner cloth is fastened to welded frame connectors by spring hooks.

These tents are suitable for all year round accommodation of people in field conditions. They can hold the snow load of up to 140 kg/sq.m !!!!! , withstand the wind force of up to 48 kg/sq.m and can be used at temperatures ranging from -50 to +50 Celsius degrees.

This requirement, described in CHиП 2.01.07-85 article, has been set by the Central Clothing Department of Ministry of Defence of Russian Federation in 2008 and all suppliers had to submit «the physical strength of the frame research» report that could be conducted only by a few independent expert third party institutions.

SiF ORT did qualify to this complex task by implementing the following:

- Inclined side walls;

- Enhanced strength of the frame was achieved by implementing a combination of poles with rectangular and round profile pipes

Frame

The frame of the tent consists of poles and connectors. Each pole is equipped with two pins at both ends that go inside the connector ensuring the connection is not loose. When the build up of all frame parts is complete, the structure looks like a set of equal skeleton modules.

Outer cloth

Outer cloth is made of two types of fabric: side walls – heavy duty natural imbue canvas, roof – two different coloured sided PVC. Canvas material has natural fibbers in its base which allows a tent to «breathe» – huge bonus if one is to stay in hot warm place. In temperatures below zero, say -40, it also behaves better than any other synthetic fabric – it doesn’t crack and keeps being elastic.
The PVC roof ensures the tent doesn’t leak. All joints of the roof are properly welded on high frequency current machine, there is no stitching as it becomes one solid piece. One may flip the outer cloth inside out i.e. white PVC roof in summer time and olive green (the back side of the awning) in winter. All elements of the tent such as windows, hooks and other attachments are correctly allocated on both sides of the awning.
To ventilate the tent, one may open up windows that are equipped with mosquito netting or roll up the bottom part of the side wall (there are special hooks sewn to the awning to keep the sidewall in rolled up position)
Each tent has a sleeve at lower left sidewall conner to supply hot or cold air by air conditioner from outside

Inner cloth

Inner cloth serves as insulation for the tent. A space between inner and outer cloth creates a «buffer» that does not allow the temperature inside the tent to heat up or cool down at the same rate as outside. The fabric of the inner cloth is made of 70% natural cotton with ignite proof and germifuge properties.
Additional warm inner cloth is also included in the tent packing bag shall the tent be used in cold weather conditions.

Groundsheet
The groundsheet of the tent is maid of standard olive green PVC and has to be fastened to the inner cloth. There are special pockets (where the «leg-poles» are inserted) sewn to the groundsheet lifting it 15 cm above the ground

Guaranteed life-time of the tent is 24 months of continuos outdoor usage.

Guaranteed storage life-time is 10 years.

These tents are meant for accommodation of staff and establishments of army forces of Russian Federation in field conditions all the year round. The tents must provide comfortable living at a temperature from -50 to +50 Celsius degrees, protect from atmospheric precipitations and wind up to 48 kg/sq. m and snow loading up to 140 kg/sq. m.

Tent’s size

A tent must house a certain quantity of people with beds on the floor and bunks, having furniture and observance of safety standards: width of walkway for fast evacuation, space between beds and inner cloth walls and a heating stove.

Structure strength

Supporting system should be safe for soldiers’ lives at any wind and snow loading in Russian Federation, even if conditions of usage are offended, i.e. if snow cover can’t be removed from the tent surface.

Structure simplicity

System of tent installation should be easy for soldiers to cut time of encampment. Elements of a tent should be interchangeable or replaceable by locally improvised materials; clothes should be easily installed in field conditions.

Package

Type of package should be taken into account choosing the way of shipping, i.e. when using an auto-loader tent must be packed in a wooden case, if no any additional facilities are used – then bags with 4 handles weighing not more than 100 kg.

Water-resistance

Tent should be made of waterproof materials and prevent moisture penetration at places of fabric joints, especially in sews on the roof. Sews hermeticity should be provided for the whole service and storage life of the tent (sticking, gluing-up of sews, application of silicone strip are a temporary solution).

Color

Classic color “Flora” is zoomed to improve mask in summer time for Central Russia; but for winter time cloth should be white. For southern regions sand camouflage or classic canvas is better as it fades under the sun rays.

Additional claims for cloth fabrics

Cloth fabrics should provide comfortable living and using in any climate. Good heat-proof is important in winter. Main requirement to fabrics is not to get firm and not to crack at low temperatures. Inner cloth should be fireproof to prevent fire caused by sparks from a heating stove. In summer tent should protect you from the heat. So it’s necessary to use “breathable” fabrics to ventilate the tent. Double cloth creates a microclimate. Ventilation system is created by lifting walls. Dismountable windows with mosquito nets protect you from insects. Light color of the outer cloth reflects sun rays. But if there is an AC cloth should be airproof. For continuous storage life (e.g. for emergency ration) all fabrics should be additionally treated by antiseptic.

- Inclined side walls;

- Enhanced strength of the frame was achieved by implementing a combination of poles with rectangular and round profiles

In early 90s, SiF ORT decided to develop a tent that would serve as long-lasting comfortable sleeping headquarters for people working in the bush. Company came up with a product later named the PAMIR 10.

The 4×5 meter PAMIR shelter was a free standing frame construction. Its insulation system was based on introduction of inner cloth that had to be attached to the frame from «inside» the tent. Inner and outer cloths created a layer of air between one another so it served as a «buffer», effectively resisting any temperature change. It was always cooler inside the tent during day time and warmer in night time than outside.

The demand for these luxury tents was boosted by the purchase order from the state Russian disaster management department in mid 90s. The ministry acquired quite a number of “PAMIR”s to accommodate their staff in places of technogenic disasters.
The next progress towards making a better tent for camping in summer occurred due to analyzing the data received from our South African office. People in that country go camping more often than we do and are very so we used their knowledge to alter the design of our camping tents. Now all our summer camping tents are equipped with 10 large windows protected by mosquito netting and sun-proved curtains, the two entrances to the tent have very strong zips and there is allowance to install a veranda.

When we talk about PVC-tents we mean that outer cloth is made with PVC-covering. Material warp consists of nylon threads, braiding of them influences on mechanical characteristics and adhesion of fabric part. Warp may differ by chemical compound, strength, weight and braid type (e.g. by correlation of filling and warp 1:1 or 1:2), also quantity of threads at 1 cm is important. Then more nylon threads are used in fabric part of cloth then breaking weight index is higher. But cover adhesion in fabric part (adhesive materials fill the voids or pores of the surfaces and hold surfaces together by interlocking) is worse. When such clothes are welded by special facilities, PVC-covering can be torn apart. This can break gasproofing of sews and entirety of the cloth. This means that PVC-tent may tear and leak if it’s raining.

Types of braiding

PVC-covering

Fabric warp may be covered on one side and on both. For producing of tents it’s preferable to use double-side covering because it increases usage and storage life of tents. This happens due to chemical properties of PVC: it is limitedly soluble in ketone, compound ether, chlorinate carbohydrates, tight to attacks of acids, suets, alkali, salt solutions, moisture, gasoline, spirits, kerosene, industrial gases (like С12, С13, HF, NO2). PVC coincides with following matters: phosphates, sebates, phthalates, which are different PVC plasticizers. All that means that PVC-fabric is stable against oxidation, and isn’t considered a flammable material. Due to that nylon fabric on both sides is protected from moisture, fire and does not rot. Because tents are putted for continuous storage at warehouses where conditions are often not proper (heating, ventilation, storage at the certain height above the floor etc.) tents made of PVC-covered fabric are very popular.

Also we can load addition agents into PVC-covering. For example, PVDF agent improves protecting properties of the fabric against ultraviolet rays. Such agent is used in manufacturing tents for extremely hot climates like in Saudi Arabia in days of Hajj for accommodation of thousands of pilgrims.

Polyutherane improves properties of fabric for low temperatures making it more flexible and firm during installation process.

If PVC-fabric is covered with laquer or acryl, it’s less soiled and it’s very easy to clean if it gets dirt. So if you buy a light-colored tent (light colors make your marquee more festive), make sure cloth has a gloss.

But if it’s bended, laquer covering of cloth may get white lines which make your tent untidy. These lines disappear in short time and they do not strike your eye when they on light cloth.

Temperature setting

In spite of various advantages of PVC-fabric it may have some usage limits. If the fabric does not include agents enhancing fabric’s frost-resistance, tents can be used at temperatures from -30 to +40 Celsius degrees. If you install the tent in such low temperature it should be kept in a heated room before that. If it’s impossible you’d better buy canvas tents.

If temperature is higher than 40 degrees PVC-fabric without any special agents melts and stretches. Why does PVC-fabric stand +70 degrees and tent stands up to +40? It can be explained by law of thermodynamics: when sunlight gets to surface it can be captured or reflected, surface becomes hotter than air temperature especially if the surface is dark. That’s why when it’s +40 Celsius degrees out there, temperature of your olive tent’s cloth may be higher than +100 degrees.

Color of PVC-fabric

Fabric can be made of any color. You may choose the color you need with help of a special pallet and send its number to the manufacturer. But because PVC-fabric is often imported from other countries, its manufacturing and delivery may take two months and longer. Sure, you may order PVC-fabric in Russia, but, unfortunately, imported fabrics’ quality is higher than Russian. If you cannot wait for two months you can always choose fabric from those carried in stock. Most popular colors of PVC-tents are: white, blue, olive and dark-blue. Also we can provide services of an artist to decorate your tent using your brand colors, draw your logo or just write something on the cloth.
